Welcome to John Paul II Catholic School
Reversed Lunch K-3
Many elementary schools have gone to a reversed lunch for students. This provides the opportunity for students to play first, then eat. Students will go outside from 11:35 until 12:00, then come in and eat from 12:00- 12:18. Our Kindergarten to grade three students will be giving this a trial period for the next couple of weeks. We will then look for some feedback from parents, teachers and students. Here is what Alberta Health Services says…
Schools that have reverse lunch reap the benefits of having students play first, then eat lunch. When recess is before lunch schools notice that students:
- Behave better on the playground, in the lunchroom and in the classroom.
- Take in more nutrients, like calcium and protein, by wasting less and eating more of their lunch.
- Focus on eating rather than rushing through lunch to get to the playground.
- Litter less on school grounds and inside school.
- Return to the classroom calmer and ready to learn after lunch
Welcome to the John Paul II Catholic School web site. John Paul II is located in the vibrant community of Stony Plain, Alberta. As part of the Evergreen Catholic Separate School Division, we work in partnership with our colleagues in Spruce Grove, Devon, Westlock and Hinton. Our staff and students together with the parish of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, openly celebrate our bond of faith in God. We strive to be a Christ-centred school where staff and students grow in the community of the Holy Spirit. It is our hope that we can provide students with means and opportunity to gain the necessary skills, knowledge and attitiudes to become life long learners rooted in Gospel values.
John Paul II School is an exciting, growing school community serving the needs of our families and ECS through grade 8 students. From its beginnings in the church basement to the modernized building we enjoy today, there has been non-stop growth for this school community.
Our division theme for the 2011-2012 school year is also our new vision statement.
